It’s been a long-time dream of mine to visit Japan for, mainly, gastronomic reasons and I have to say, if I was forced to pick only one cuisine to eat for the rest of my life it would be Japanese. Luckily living in Edinburgh, we are spoilt for choice by amazing Japanese restaurant options we have around our beloved city. I’ve rounded up my all times favourite sushi restaurants and whittled it down to a top 5: Kanpai In my opinion Kanpai is the best spot in town for sushi, and always the first place I would recommend to friends looking for an amazing Japanese meal, in a gorgeous setting. Kanpai is the most upscale restaurant on this list, so for me it’s the perfect place to celebrate something special. Whether that’s your birthday or just for getting to the end of the week! Top tip: always book in advance, they’re always choc-a-bloc. Make sure that you also order their miso Aubergine to go along side your sushi, its incredible. You can thank me later.     Soul Sushi I’ve been a long-time fan of Soul Sushi since their humble beginnings at their take away only location in Meadowbank. About a year ago they moved to their current, and much large location on Nicholson Street, where you can now also sit in. Their spicy tuna roll for me rivals even their most upmarket competitors. Top tip: all of their pre-prepared sushi is half price after 8.30pm. If you’re willing to take the risk that they have any left, you’ll be getting a lot of tuna for your buck!   Kenji Sushi On one of my favourite streets in Stockbridge, St Stephenson Street lies Kenji Sushi. Small but perfectly formed, Kenji sushi offer a gorgeous dining experience in their authentic and traditional restaurant. Order one of their sashimi sets, they’re the best around. And if raw fish isn’t your thing, they have an extensive list on noddle-based dishes, as well as a fabulous Katsu curry on offer.   Maki and Ramen There’s no doubt in my mind that Ramen and Maki serve, and are most famous for the best Raman in all of Edinburgh and beyond. But don’t let that fool you into thinking that their sushi takes a back seat. They now have three restaurants across Edinburgh, with their swanky new location in Fountain Bridge being my favourite. They also offer a ‘Chef’s Choice’ menu, which for the adventurous among us, sounds epic.   Minato Sushi          This local run sushi delivery business is based just outside Edinburgh in Prestonpans, but thankfully still delivers to Edinburgh. They also deliver to East Lothian and Midlothian, for all of your out of towners needing that sushi fix. All of their sushi is freshly made to order and is absolutely divine. Supporting small, local business and getting to eat delicious sushi? Win win! @hannahthestyleswan
