SUMMER ISSUE

Welcome to the sunshine issue of Opulence   What. A. Summer. There’s no doubt about it: Edinburgh is at its best when it’s bathed in sunshine. After a long, cold winter, it’s nice to shrug off the heavy coats and reach for the shades. And, with so many things to see and do coming to the capital, things are heating up.   With every summer, I make a solemn vow to do the Festival properly – packing as much into August as possible. This year will be the year. And, with our festival guide, there’s no excuse. The planning starts now.   As ever, the city’s foodie scene is going from strength to strength. We’ve turned to our favourite food guru, Ailidh Forlan, to get the rundown on openings and launches. And she has excelled herself, giving us the rundown on 15 new eateries coming to Edinburgh this summer.       My own addition to the list of must-visit destinations in the city would be Smith & Gertrude. If you want to escape the festival frenzy or you need a laid-back place to meet friends, then look no further. Wine, cheese and great company – sometimes the simple pleasures are best.     Finally, if you need to slow down, Katy at Calm on Canning has 10 reasons to try yoga. The perfect way to release the tension of a busy Festival season!     From all of us at Opulence, we hope you enjoy our latest issue. Have a lovely summer.   Main pick-ups: Filament Coffee Herringbone Finn & Bear Toast Coffee Angel Artisan Roast, Stockbridge  Hamilton’s The Pantry Cairngorm Coffee, West End  Burr & Co  Indigo Yard Project Coffee  Montpeliers
