Works to restore three magnificent Grade A listed buildings at luxury Edinburgh development Craighouse are moving towards completion, having reached a significant milestone. The repaired and refurbished roofs to East Craig, South Craig and Bevan have been unveiled after months of careful and meticulous restoration works, with four further buildings set to be restored throughout the development of this historic site.
Specialist local tradesmen have re-laid slate to all three buildings (dating back to the late 1800s) using the buildings’ original roofing alongside conservation slate, bringing them back to their former glory.
Located in an elevated position on Easter Craiglockhart Hill in Morningside, Craighouse is a £100m development of 145 contemporary homes by Quartermile Developments. A mix of luxurious townhouses, penthouses and apartments are set within 52-acres of wood and parkland in a much-loved and historic location which has been part of Edinburgh’s fabric for over 400 years. Designed by renowned architect Sydney Mitchell, South Craig is set within a historic Victorian building and offers three exceptionally spacious apartments and a townhouse, all with spectacular views. East Craig is an elegant villa converted into just two unique properties while Bevan will form one magnificent home. When complete, the buildings will retain many original features and notable architectural details.
Craighouse boasts outstanding views of Edinburgh Castle, Arthur’s Seat and the Edinburgh skyline. Inside the wide range of properties, contemporary and distinct open-plan layouts will provide flexible spaces that allow for a light and spacious flow. Interiors all feature designer kitchens and bathrooms, and the highest quality fixtures and finishes throughout.
Jan Welsh, Sales & Marketing Director at Quartermile said: “We are delighted to unveil the completed roofs of these historic buildings. These listed properties are being painstakingly restored and converted offering buyers a truly exceptional collection of homes. The conversion buildings at Craighouse contain many sought after features seldom found in such a setting and location and the completion of the roofs on South Craig, East Craig and Bevan marks a real milestone at the development.”
The first homes at Craighouse are expected to be ready for occupation in early 2019 with works ongoing to create a new community within what is set to become one of Edinburgh’s finest developments.
